Attn: Ponca City and the surrounding area WW II Aeronautically involved
Veterans.
There is a group involved in a project that will help us remember how important
Ponca City is to our nation’s freedom. This is our chance to show appreciation
to those who served and are still living.
Did you know that DARR School was one of six training facilities built by
Americans to train British pilots to fly bombers in World War II? Did you know
that Ponca City citizens purchased War Bonds to pay for “Miss Ponca City” a B-17
bomber that we never got to see because it was shot down in combat? These are
just a few facts we hope to share with visitors and local residents with this
WWII memorial project.
This project will memorialize by name every veteran in our area that we can
find.
WE NEED NAMES and dates served from every individual that served in Ponca City
and the surrounding areas, or who had family that served in WW II as a pilot,
crew member, mechanic, ground crew, Women’s Air Corps (WAC), or anyone who was
part of the DARR Flight School Training Center.
Please send the following information:
Your name (first and last), phone number, address, the full name of the WW II
Veteran, their field/occupation, years the Veteran served, whether or not the
Veteran is living, and if the Veteran was killed during service.
Following are different ways you can forward the above information: Call Burton
at 580/762-8990, email Teresa at teresas@pioneertech.org or send by fax to
580/765-5101.
Files on the right are in .PDF format.
